Nice breakdown. I also find that there's another type of self-optimization outside the data: in how we speak to friends, and how we speak about ourselves. I've been thinking about this in terms of the phrase "skill issue" - how it leads to the individualization of failure, and skews our tolerance for variance. I think this also applies to too much data about your life, so this was an interesting lens to view it through too.

I like to add in an evening in the pub with good friends, getting absolutely plastered from time to time. There's very few devices that can measure the benefit of that.
